Musk says Pepsi will receive first Tesla Semi electric trucks in December

Tesla Inc is starting production of Semi commercial trucks, and PepsiCo Inc will receive its first deliveries on December 1, Elon Musk, head of electric vehicle maker, said.

When Musk unveiled a prototype of the futuristic battery-powered Semi truck in 2017, he said the truck would be in production by 2019. However, the dates were repeatedly pushed back due to lack of details.

In another tweet, Musk confirmed that the car has a range of 500 miles (805 km). It is not yet clear how many Semi trucks the electric vehicle maker plans to produce.

The truck is expected to cost $180,000, although it may qualify for tax credits of up to $40,000 under a subsidy program approved by the US Senate.

Back in 2017, PepsiCo reserved 100 Tesla electric trucks in an effort to cut fuel costs and emissions.
